Teen colon cancer patient pays it forward

Local foundation assists those affected by cancer

MEDINA – Since being diagnosed with colon cancer and pseudomyxoma peritonei at the age of 17 in 2014, Collin Kiousis, now 19, and his family have gone through a lot of struggles. But through it all, he has taken the initiative to help others going through the same experience.

Collin; his mother, Liz Kiousis; his girlfriend, Hayden Cory, 18; and her mother, Erin Cory, operate the nonprofit organization Collin Cares.

Liz said the idea for this organization came when her sister organized a fundraiser on the family’s behalf following Collin’s diagnosis. That event became the foundation’s annual Glow with the Flow 5K run.

“When Collin was diagnosed in 2014, my sister said she could hold a 5K,” Liz recalled. “That’s what she wanted to do to support us.”

Since then, she and her family came up with the idea of creating a non-profit organization to help other families in similar situations…
